This course - originally developed by RMIT - aims to equip translators and interpreters with language, knowledge and best practices to work with LGBTQIA+ asylum seeker and refugee clients. It is designed to upskill T&I professionals so that they have the confidence to provide safe services to these communities.

Who this course is for: 

This course is designed for translators and interpreters who work in community settings in Australia. It will be particularly useful for professionals who provide interpreting or translation for refugee and asylum seeker communities.

By the end of this course, you will:

• Gain insights into the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers and refugees 
• Have a better understanding of terminology and concepts relating to gender, sexuality, and identity 
• Know how to explore multilingual resources relevant to this area of practice 
• Understand more about LGBTQIA+ inclusive language and develop confidence in using it 
• Develop ability to reflect on your practice and make ethical decisions
